Stehekin School (1)
Middle school at Stehekin, WA.
Stehekin is a small community of a few hundred people at the head
of Lake Chelan on the east foothills of the Cascade mountains in
Washington state. Stehekin river has created a deep, narrow and
long lake on a glacier-carved valley.
There is a post-office, a lodge, a restaurant, a bakery, a good
visitor center (Golden West visitor center) with National Park
Service staff and a middle school.
You can travel to Stehekin by boat (Lady of the Lake) or by
plane. Boat ride is fun. Lake Chelan is the third deepest
lake in the US (behind Crater Lake and Lake Tahoe).
Apart from North Cascased Stehekin lodge, there is a few other
lodging options such as Stehekin Valley Ranch, Silver Bay Inn,
some cabins and also public campgrounds.
Food is available from only a few places (the restaurant at the
North Cascades lodge, the ranch, the bakery), but I found that you
can pretty good food. You don't have to take your meals with you,
but you will want to take snacks with you when you are visiting
Chelan.
