Alluvial fans in Death Valley are huge and long. This is one of
the most fascinating land formations in Death Valley. As the
streams flow out of the steep mountains through narrow canyons into
flat land, the rocks, pebbles and sediments get deposited just
outside the canyon. The stream eventually loses speed and in
Death Valley, disappear. The landscape acquires the shape of
a fan over time.
Alluvial fans occur on the land just as a delta forms near the
ocean. They occur in a number of places. In Death Valley, you
will be able to see the huge fans and I think these are some of
the most beautiful land formations of nature.

Don't forget to park your car and walk into the field on either
side of the road. The field may be muddy and slippery
on rainy days.

Sand Dunes at Death Valley (1) -

Park your car along the road and walk about half a mile
on the north or west side of the road. You can walk anywhere
on the dunes. Sand will get into your shoes but won't hurt.
I found that it was not very easy to slide as the dunes were
quite damp.
If you are using a tripod, cover the bottom of the legs with a
plastic bag, or the sand will get into the screws and knobs.
Sunrise and senset are spectacular from the sand dunes. A walk
under full moon is also quite nice. You almost do not need a
flash light on the dunes under full moon. You will need one
on your way to the dunes from the road though.
