  1. Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Valley (May 2005) - Upper yosemite falls visible from the valley roads
If you are visiting the valley, the best way to visit this area is to go all the way to the day-use parking lot and take a shuttle. A lot of visitors are tempted to pull over as soon as they see something scenic. From the day-use parking lot, take the shuttle go to the Yosemite Falls stop. After visiting the Yosemite falls up, close and personal, come back to the bus-stop and cross the road. A very short trail will take you from the north-road to the south-road through the meadow. After a wooden bridge across the merced river and a boardwalk through the meadow, you will be at the south-road. You can continue walking all the way to bridalveil falls.

Walking on the meadows destroys them. Always use the trail or boardwalk and pay attention to the signboards that that ask visitors to keep away from areas of revegetation.

You can do a strenuous dayhike all the way to the top of Upper Yosemite falls from the 'backpacker's walk-in campground'. After another mile, you will reach Yosemite Point. Vistas of the valley are beautiful from various points on the trail and from Yosemite Point. Yosemite Point is located across the valley from Glacier Point at about the same elevation.

  2. Illiloutte Falls from Mist trail (May 2005) - View of Illiloutte Falls and Cascade from Mist trail
Illiloutte falls is a very beautiful falls that most people do not visit. It is visible from the mist trail after about half-a-mile from the trailhead.

A great hike would be to take a bus from Yosemite lodge to Glacier Point. You will pay for a tour, but you have to tell the driver that you will not be using the bus for your return trip.

Once you reach Glacier Point, replenish your water supply, food and snacks and hike down the Panorama trail. It is a 8-mile walk to the valley. This is arguably the most beautiful trail in the entire valley.

Once the trail leaves Glacier Point, it is downhill all the way to Illiloutte Falls. There is a bridge that crosses the canyon and you get to see some beautiful cascades in early and middle summer. After crossing the canyon, the trail goes uphill for a while and goes downhill all the way to the top of Nevada falls. It meets up with John Muir trail just before reaching Nevada falls. Thereafter, take the Mist trail down to the valley (via vernal falls).

  3. Vernal Falls from the bridge (May 2005) - Nice views of the cascades on Merced river

  4. Vernal Falls (May 2005) - Need a poncho in early and middle summer
